東山の愛した故郷の風景は、すっかり変わってしまいました。萱葺き屋根の民家は、殆ど姿を消してしまったし、川や山は、壊され続けています。東山は生前、「あの美しい日本の風景は、どこへ行ってしまったのか。」と嘆いていたのですが、東山の描いた風景は、「昔の美しい日本の風景」に、なってしまうのでしょうか．．．？
